The question posed in An Invincible Summer was looked at with intelligence and compassion. The plot and compelling characters pulled the reader in so that the answer was never black and white. When I picked up the book I was certain on where I fell on the issue of sterilization for the develop mentally disabled but given Leigh's rational there were moments when I could see the other side. I want to be made to think when I read and Ferrendelli did this. Ashleigh's response to Jamie's feelings about her sister gave the reader more than a stereotypical view of someone faced with mental challenges.Technically the continual description of everything made the reading a little cumbersome but it was well worth the effort.

An Invincible Summer edition by Betta Ferrendelli Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This was a very well written book. It kept me interested through the entire book. The friendships and destroyed kept me wanting to not put it down.
Great book. I enjoyed the Sam Church series. Invincible Summer had some of the familiar tones and styles of the mystery series but also held its own as an independent story. The story progressed quickly and had a nice pace. The characters were intriguing and as a reader I became vested in their outcome. Great job and I can't wait to read Betta's future works.
"An Invincible Summer" was a major surprise to me -- full of enjoyment throughout. Extremely well written -- definitely a page turner! The reader comes to know each character in depth, and it's clear that Betta Ferrendelli is an accomplished writer. I'm so glad I read this book -- you will thoroughly enjoy it too! I am looking forward to reading more books of hers.
A very interesting story line with lots of surprises and turns. The information on slow learning was very informative and gave some much needed insight. The story was great and the ending was both happy and sad. The author needs a new proofreader as there are a lot of missing words. Overall a good read.
I am exceedingly distressed by a couple of statements the author has in her book. She wrote "It would even be ill-advised and risky for a woman with a normal IQ and diabetes to handle a pregnancy through a full term" and " . . . a diabetic condition in addition to a pregnancy isn't the best combination. It's dangerous. In fact, very dangerous."
Excuse me, but that just isn't so. My mother was diabetic from the age of 19 and took a shot of insulin every morning. She had four healthy children without complications to her health. That was way back in the 1950s, and she lived to be 81 years old.
I'm concerned that these statements by the author may discourage a diabetic woman from having children, or—even worse—encourage her to procure an abortion.
A diabetic woman who is considering pregnancy or is already pregnant should see her doctor about managing her blood sugar, diet, and insulin in order to mitigate any risks.
Now, all that is in addition to occasional errors in grammar, capitalization, and punctuation in the book.
Frankly, this novel could use a good editing, especially those horribly misleading statements concerning diabetes and pregnancy.
As an attorney, Jamie handled difficult cases where children were involved. An acquaintance asked her to defend a case where a mother was requesting that her mildly, mentally challenged daughter have her tubes tied. Ashleigh, the daughter did not want the procedure.
This was a well written, poignant story. It was handled with understanding and concern for all of the characters. I loved and highly recommend it.
I enjoyed this book and and story line very much. The plot was different as was the characters from so many books you read. I had never thought of forced sterilization but was drawn into this subject. It was presented well and got me to think about people with mental problems. It is really an uplifting read.
